Socially responsible

Over the last year, one of the key aspects of the Valencia Conference Centre has been its increasing social awareness, with the venue stepping up its commitment to the community by forging partnerships with NGOs and social organisations.

Thus, in 2017, the Valencia Conference Centre hosted the show “La magia de Surg for all” put on by Surg for all, a non-profit association set up almost three years ago to train healthcare professionals in Valencia and then mentor them in the Third World so they can put their learning into practice and improve the quality of surgery in these countries. The show was a resounding success with its two performances raising over €4,000.

Another organisation the Centre has supported is the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC in its Spanish acronym). The Valencia venue helped out in the “València contra el cancer” charity run by handing out bib numbers in its facilities. Tomás Trenor, Chairman of AECC Valencia, says that this event “has had an enormous impact which adds to the standing an association needs to get society to take action by helping to help.” The upshot was no less than €42,428 in takings and 8,640 runners.

Environmental commitment

In lockstep the Centre is keeping up its environmental commitment as part of its ECO Project. This Global Plan commits to sustainability by implementing numerous ecological measures, which accounted for over half of the Centre’s investment for the year. The most significant is producing clean energy from the venue’s rooftop photovoltaic system, which since its installation in 2008 has generated more than 2.5 million KWh while avoiding the emission of 1,625 tonnes of CO2.

Another ecological initiative the building has signed up for is Earth Hour, one of the events run in Valencia by WWF Spain, the largest independent organisation engaged in safeguarding nature and the environment. Over 180 countries and 7,000 cities turned off their lights for an hour to raise awareness in society about the seriousness of impending climate change.
